No fancy titles... this says it all. This is the reason my stay in Yellowstone and Tetons was so short. I chose to fly in and out of Salt Lake City so I'd have a very rare chance to possibly photograph a wild mountain lion. The cougar had been seen sporadically at a natural spring in the Wasatch Mountains. I was stationed in a tree stand 20 feet off the ground. Today was my first morning in the stand and nothing showed up. For the afternoon/evening session I had been in the tree for about an hour-and-a-half by the time the sun went down. Soon afterward, the cat appeared! It was only there for a couple minutes before disappearing back into the woods. I'm so pumped. :D This is such a rare photo opportunity, and I can't believe that with only two days available, this trip paid off! Woo hoo! I had a great 13 months of wild cat encounters between November 2007 and November 2008. This mountain lion was probably the highlight, but there were several others, including ! a visit with three wild pumas in Costa Rica in late November, 2008.
